Who we are

Derbyshire Dales Ramblers is one of over 500 local area groups of UK's national walking charity, The Ramblers. The Ramblers is a national charity with objectives of caring for public rights of way (footpaths) and access to the countryside. Each local area group provides guided walks for their members led by experienced leaders. Derbyshire Dales Ramblers started in 1972 and, with over 500 members, is one of the largest Ramblers groups in the UK.

What we do

We organise six walks a week over five days for our members; Monday and Fridays are our days off. Our walks are open to all Ramblers members and to potential new members for a trial period before joining. There are regular Friday meetings with an illustrated talk relevant to our interests and a chance to meet other members of the group. We also monitor footpaths in the Derbyshire Dales area reporting problems to the authorities and interact with other bodies concerned in the countryside and access to it.

How we are run

All our walks, footpath work and administration is organised by our members as volunteers. The group is managed by a committee elected each December at our AGM. The committee manages the walks programmes, accounts, website and publicity; it meets three times a year to agree the walks, budget, accounts and action on footpath matters. All Ramblers' members pay their subscription to the national Ramblers organisation and part of this is then received by the local groups to fund their activities. 
We are governed by the rules for charities, follow the national Ramblers' safeguarding and data protection policies and have a constitution.
