JOHN STONE 1929-2009

John StoneMembers who were privileged to know John through a shared passion for walking will have been shocked and saddened to learn that he had died in May following a heart operation. John, prior to retirement, had a very successful career as a Local Government Officer and lecturer and he and Tessa were devoted parents and grandparents while enjoying a fulfilling and active life. It is, however, his long association with the Derbyshire Dales Group of the Rambler’s Association that will be best remembered by our members.

He was until recently our Membership Secretary and member of the Group Committee, responsibilities he fulfilled with diligence and good humour for many years. John will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who had the good fortune to accompany him and be entertained by his stimulating conversation on a wide range of topics that enhanced our walks together through the Peak District hills and dales he loved.
