AREA ACCESS OFFICER’S REPORT

I have attended two meetings of the Peak District Local Access Forum on 18th June and 26th September. The meeting on 26th September had the draft Peak District Recreation Strategy as its main agenda item.  Discussion of this took most of the morning. All members myself included commented on the strategy which will now go forward for its final draft.

On Monday 28th September I attended a joint visit to Black Hill with the West Yorkshire LAF. This was to see the results of the regeneration of the vegetation in the area and hear details of what has been achieved and how it has been done. The project has been a great success and there is funding for the work to continue, and additional projects are underway funded by other bodies, most notably the water supply companies. The results are little short of amazing: Black Hill is no longer black. The area is well worth a visit.
