ALBERT HILL

1932 - 2009

We were all greatly saddened to hear of the death of Albert Hill in July. Following retirement from B.T. as an industrial chemist, Albert became an active member of the Derbyshire Dales Group, where he served as a committee member, editor of “Footprints” and walk organiser. He was also a member of Crich Tramway Museum, where he served as a driver and conductor, a member of the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, Wirksworth, and a guide at Renishaw Hall. He started the Wednesday Easy Pace walks in the late 90's leading many walks with his wife Ruby, often finding pubs with excellent food first and then arranging a walk in the area with lunch to follow.

He always gave a warm welcome to new members and showed concern for those with walking problems. Albert had great determination - at coffee break he would produce his notepad, lick his pencil and collect future walks from members – there was no escape! He recently had proposed organising Extra Leisurely Walks starting in September, but, sadly, this was not to be. Albert was a very memorable person, having a great sense of humour, causing many a smile and will be missed by all who knew him.
